PHP and my.scimap

As you have seen in the news, there has been a significant security issue with PHP, and it is one of the technologies my. scimap’s server was built on. The my.scimap server and software are old, and we can’t simply patch the system to address this vulnerability. Therefore, we are all going to need to say goodbye to my.scimap.

Moving forward, there are two options to access SCIMAP tools:

  1. QGIS Plugin. The most feature-rich version of the SCIMAP Toolkit is in QGIS. The plugin is in the QGIS Plugin Store. Go to Plugins -> Manage and Install Plugins, and then search for SCIMAP-Toolkit. The user guide for the plugin is here: https://simreaney.github.io/SCIMAP-QGIS/
  2. SAGA-GIS. SCIMAP Sediment is in SAGA’s main distribution. Look under Simulation and then SCIMAP-Toolkit. https://sourceforge.net/projects/saga-gis/

Longer term, there are plans for:

  1. A new my.scimap application. The software is actually already developed but needs the web hosting to be sorted.
  2. A python library, pySCIMAP to enable direct access to the tools. This is written and currently drives the development version of the QGIS plugin.
  3. An ArcGIS Pro plugin. Again, this is written and being tested.
